I have just had the pleasure of trying out Turtle Beach Ear Force X31 gaming headset for the Xbox 360.
OMG!! Why I have never heard of these before a week ago, I don't know, it has to be one of the gaming industries best kept secret, this equipment is awesome.
Incredibly easy to set up, plug a transmitting device into the USB slot of the Xbox 360 and an audio lead into the red & white jacks in the back of the TV, batteries into the headset and once you synchronise them, you are away!!
The headset has three settings, the first turns the bass on ....... nice!! that difference alone makes an impact. The next setting turns the bass off and the stereo expander on, this adds a different dimension to the sound, it takes it away from your ears and has such a detailed sound that it really does sound as if you are in the thick of it. The third setting combines the bass and the stereo expander, at this poiint you will be in sound heaven.
I tried it on Mass Effect 2 first of all, I have been through this game a couple of times, but I had not realised what I was missing until I put this headset on, the sound was mind blowing, it really is quite surreal listening to your team members footsteps as you travel through a mission, you can even tell which direction they are coming from without turning round to watch them.
The second game I tried was Black Ops on line multiplayer, the advantage it gave me by actually hearing the enemy walking or running near my position was awesome, several times during the games I played I got kills where I probably would never have got in the past.
The whole gaming experience was enhanced purely on the quality of the sound, these words just don't do the experience justice, all I can say is go and get a set and try them, I guarantee you will not be dissapointed. If you are a NZ gamer, check out Mighty Ape, at the time of publishing this blog, they have a promotion on these headsets
